Week #8 - Youtube?

CN Tower being struck by lightening 3 times!

Black History Month Celebrations

This is a great tool for TPL. I believe that we are already tinkering with the idea of using Youtube. It is an effective way to reach thousands, perhaps millions of people. It can be used as free advertising for our programs and events as well as a place where people can find out more information about the Library. We can even use it to show the public how building projects are progressing.

Week #7 Podcasting

I really like podcasting...much more than I thought. It is like listening to the radio on demand. I like having the choice of when to listen to segments as well. Lastly I've really enjoyed listening to segments that are very educational and feel like an online class. I can listen while doing other things too! I chose the following podcasts to share:

http://www.qdnow.com/money.xml - Money Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips

http://www.manager-tools.com/podcasts/feed/rss2 - Manager Tools

http://www.learnitalianpod.com/feed/ - Learn Italian Pod.com

Online Office Tools

I think that this is a wonderful application. Sort of like working on the shared drive except it is transparent who has been working on the document. We had something like this in library school but this is far more user friendly and accessible.

23 Things Assignment #3 - RSS feeds

I have used Bloglines before. However, for this assignment I've added a new feed, Canadian Business Online. So far I subscribe to feeds from:
Library Journal News
The Shifted Librarian
Librarians Internet Index
Canadian Business Online: My Money News

My experience with RSS have been okay. I noticed that I really prefer to check out the websites where the feeds are generated from. That way I get a chance to see other articles that might be of interest to me, for example, Canadian Business Online. RSS works well for me if I subscribe to news from websites that I have a moderate interest in. That way I can still keep informed but really have no need to check out their websites. This is a time saver if I approach using Bloglines in this way. I think that Bloglines can be used for both work or leisure. I am still hoping to add a few more feeds to my bloglines account.

23 Things Assignment #1

I am really hoping that by taking this independent course I will be able to learn more interesting online communication tools and cool (do they say that any more?) things. I hope that this blog will serve as some sort of a jumping off point to do just that!
